She seems to be concerned about Haruhi and wants to get the anti-social girl to open up more. To that end, she encourages Kyon's growing relationship with Haruhi, seeing as Haruhi is willing to communicate with him. However, Kyon soon discovers to his horror that Ryouko is not what she appears to be. In reality, she, like Nagato Yuki, is actually a humanoid interface with similar reality-bending powers and was sent to observe Haruhi and there isn't any actual warmth behind her smile because she doesn't actually have empathy for humans. When she overhears Haruhi mention that someone disappearing would be quite interesting, Ryouko decides to make that wish come true by killing Kyon, because Haruhi seems to like him and killing him would provoke a reaction from Haruhi. Kyon only survives thanks to the intervention of Yuki who ends up killing Ryouko, making her 'disappear' instead. Yuki invents a cover story that claims that Ryouko moved to Canada, but this is not the last time the two of them will see Ryouko. . . Out of all the Suzumiya Haruhi characters, her character changes the most between each incarnation. In Haruhi-chan, she is reduced to a small chibi size and is portrayed as comic relief character who ends up under the care of Nagato Yuki, and unlike her original incarnation, is not a serious threat even though she tries to be. In Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu, she is portrayed as Yuki's best friend who is always looking out for and encouraging the shy girl and is elevated to main character status. She is also a student council president and is quite outgoing in personality but this time, she is legitimately friendly and kind She is voiced by Kuwatani_Natsuko.
