"PC" - Political Correctness - The Best Thing Ever Said About It

Here's a superb quote from the wayback machine that's still, unfortunately, quite relevant today:

"We have now reached the point where every goon with a grievance, every bitter bigot, merely has to place the prefix, 'I know this is not politically correct, but...' in front of the usual string of insults in order to be not just safe from criticism, but actually a card, a lad, even a hero. Conversely, to talk about poverty and inequality, to draw attention to the reality that discrimination and injustice are still facts of life, is to commit the sin of political correctness. Anti-PC has become the latest cover for creeps. It is a godsend for every curmudgeon and crank, from fascists to the merely smug."

My brain can process multiple things at one time.

;)

I cannot possibly comment. Far too PC.

"Sexy big boobed babes or discrimination and injustice"

^You see?? Look at the order in which you mention, (un)consciously ;)

I know it's not politically correct of me to say this but being a lesbian is wrong of me. It's an insult to god and every living creature on earth. I wish I could change my ways but alas, I can't.

A simple mind you have if but one way of thinking at a time can you process....

A simpler mind they have still where stupid questions like that they ask.

PC is just a fancy way to censor what people say and think... period. It's about CONTROL.

The most oppressed minority in society today are white middle class white people.

Can white middle class people also have another colour

Ah, now I see the error of my ways. In my haste to try to imitate the individuals being discussed in this thread I seemed to have lost several IQ points in the process. Which I'm sure you'll agree just added extra weight and a certain amount of gravitas to the entire performance overall.

It just goes to show how dedicated I actually am to my craft. A true artist you might say. ;)

Albino maybe? :)

I don't see how what anyone thinks is being controlled. What they can say without being challenged yes.But that is not anything new or anything exlusive to any political philosophy. Some said anyone who who was critical of the war in Iraq were being unpatriotic and not supporting the troops is an example of people trying to stifle speech on the right side.On the left you have people who will aggressively challenge anyone who they see as using racist speech which maybe a few decades ago was more common. While their speech is maybe inhibited by that unfortuantely they still think they that way.Only reason that speech is now not as acceptable (or non-pc if you will) is determined by society exercising their freedom to determine such.

It really is just a result of people exercising their freedoms. In the competetion of ideas the racial views have lost generally and are seen now as beyond the pale to be uttered by the majority,at least for now.

Political correctness is the tool of the politicians wield to try to justify their very own existence. I remember when I was growing up it was perfectly acceptable in society to call blacks, Chinese and Indian origin people commonly by the more derogatory names (which for PC reasons will not mention here!). This over time became less acceptable and I for one am glad that this perhaps has happened. There are many situations where You Might make a perfectly innocent sounding joke at work and you suddenly face charges of discrimination from the other person.

A very funny politically incorrect statement of mine is one made by Winston Churchill (British PM during World War II), how would this go down in modern political circles today? :dunno:

Bessie Braddock: "Winston, you are drunk, and what's more, you are disgustingly drunk."
Churchill: "Bessie, my dear, you are ugly, and what's more, you are disgustingly ugly. But tomorrow I shall be sober and you will still be disgustingly ugly."

Sure, PC is a way for control, for people to at best bring back puritanism and abolish all indecency, or at worst to manipulate language in Orwellian fashion.

But anti-PC is an excuse to be a jerk and justify it as just being "real" (which it may or may not be, but you're still being a dick and that's not OK.)

So in short, just don't be an asshole.
