Yo , Im Gabriel.
My scoring is pretty simple. I obviously consider its entertainment value to ME, because what's the point of watching a show I find boring? To be enjoyable, a show has to excel in at least one aspect. It can be something technical (visual appeal , engaging plot) or it can be something personal(emotional resonance, escapism). I don't think I am too critical, but having some knowledge of the production process, some things definitely irk me or impress me more than the average shounen obsessed weeaboo.
I also do my best to rate shows on a broader scale and my enjoyment relative to each other to avoid a heavily biased dataset. If your mean score is above a 6, you're probably doing something wrong, unless you haven't seen that much anime.
How I got into anime:
Life was pretty rough during my childhood, by childhood I meant the first 6 years of my life. A bunch of bizzare shit happened, so its been pretty vivid even though I was still sucking on the pacifier back then. Definitely an unhappy time, so it was rare that we'd get any family time at all. Or rather, father-son time. My elder brother and I lived with Dad after the divorce.
At about 7 years old, I got into a car accident and had to spend a good amount of time recovering. It was the time of my life. Thats when the first anime SERIES I actually got invested in, Fairy Tail aired on TV. It was the one show that connected my family. Dad was always working to meet ends meet, so watching Fairy Tail was some of the only family time we got. My favourite memory was when Erza Scarlet transformed into one of her more revealing armors , which prompted my Father to shout "WOAH BIG TITS!".
